Common Grief Symptoms

Common Grief Symptoms:

In efforts to normalize the grief experience it is helpful to know that grief impacts us physically, emotionally, cognitively, spiritually, as well as behaviorally. 

Here are a few of the major signs seen frequently in grief reactions: 

  • stomach upset                                                                                     

  • appetite disturbance                               

  • sleep disturbance

  • shock/emotional numbness

  • despair

  • anxiety

  • fear of "going crazy"

  • emotional "roller coaster"

  • difficulty with decisions

  • memory/concentration problems

  • rumination about the death and how it happened

  • sighing/crying

  • social withdrawal

  • need to re-tell the story over & over
